Calcio Storico is a combination of soccer, rugby, wrestling and martial arts.
The footballers must wear medieval costumes for the game, according to a tradition established in the 16th century. It is thought that the event dates back more than 2000 years.
The four teams of 27 players are all from different areas of Florence, and each fights for a victory using both hands and feet to pass and control the ball.
2 semi-finals take place 10 days before the Final game. The winner is rewarded with a calf that symbolizes physical victory.
