Chinese New Year in Manchester has proven itself to be one of the UK’s brightest and best-loved events. The vibrant festival heralds the start of the new year according to the ancient lunar calendar. Visitors and locals can head to Manchester's Chinatown to find a packed program full of events and activities.
Celebrations include the legendary dragon parade which sees the famous 175ft dragon wind its way through the city’s streets alongside traditional lion and ribbon dancers, Chinese opera performers, 12 zodiac animals and ancient army characters.
Bright red lanterns light up the city center's shopping streets, where there are also live performances, traditional street food stalls, a funfair, along with an illuminated night dragon that can be found in Piccadilly Gardens.
