What is the Cologne Christmas Market?

Cologne is famous for its Christmas markets. The most popular and best-known is in front of the stunning Cologne Cathedral.

Over 4 million visitors come from near and far each year to visit the 150 stands in the Roncalliplatz. The large, lavishly decorated Christmas market takes center stage in the city and is the perfect place to get into the festive spirit.

With twinkling lights and paper stars dangling high from the trees it is a truly magical place to be. Wrap up warm, sip on a glass of glühwein (hot mulled wine) and marvel at all the wonderful treats and gifts on offer at the stalls.

The Christmas market is free to enter. Hotels fill up quickly during the festive season in Cologne so book early to avoid disappointment.
