The Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival is an annual three day event held on the last weekend of September in the centre of Galway City.
Established in 1954, the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival has welcomed over half a million visitors, consuming more than 3 million oysters.
Competitors from all over the world converge on Galway at the end of September every year to compete for this acclaimed international accolade.
The main events are two Oyster Opening Championships, the Irish Oyster Opening Championship and the World Oyster Opening Championship. Other events include a Masquerade Gala, a seafood trail, a silent disco and a family day featuring everything from cookery demonstrations, to jazz and circus skills workshops.
Fabulous live music and scrumptious seafood provide an ambient backdrop to the excitement of the competitions. Meat, vegan and veggie options are also available in the festival marquee.
