What is the Istanbul Tulip Festival?

One would normally associate tulips with Holland but in fact, but they can also be found in abundance in Istanbul. Being a national symbol of Turkey, tulips have had a major role in Turkish arts and culture for centuries.

Every April since 2006, the city government in Istanbul has planted millions of tulips in Istanbul's parks, avenues, traffic roundabouts and anywhere where there is an open space.

Need to know

The tulips begin to bloom around the end of March or the beginning of April, depending on the weather. The flowers bloom for several weeks and are a delight for the eyes.
