One would normally associate the tulip with Holland but in fact it is one of Istanbul's traditional symbols.
Every April since 2006, the city government in Istanbul plants millions of tulips in Istanbuls parks, avenues, traffic roundabouts and anywhere there is open ground.
The tulips begin to bloom around the end of March or beginning of April, depending on the weather.
The flowers bloom for several weeks and will delight the eye and the spirit for nearly a month. For a real tulip treat, you must visit the International Istanbul Tulip Festival held at Emirgan Park.
It is one of the largest public parks in Istanbul and has several tulip gardens. The displays are simply breathtaking, this is an experience to behold not only for keen flower lovers and gardeners.
