What is Kaapse Klopse?
The Kaapse Klopse is a minstrel festival that takes place every year on the 2nd of January in Cape Town, South Africa to welcome in the new year.
During the festival, over 13,000 colorfully dressed minstrels in klopse (troupes) march through the streets of Cape Town, entertaining the crowds with singing, dancing and musical performances.

Festivities usually kick off around midday and are free to attend. The event attracts up to 100,000 people who come to watch the spectacular entertainment.
Did you know?
This vibrant one-day street parade is only one part of the broader carnival. Many locals and tourists don’t know there is also a major minstrel club competition that runs every Saturday until mid-February at the Athlone Stadium.
