What is New Year's Eve in Times Square?

Every year as the clock strikes midnight on December 31, the world watches in anticipation for the infamous ball drop in the center of Times Square. There is nowhere quite like visiting New York City to ring in the New Year and nowhere quite like being at the heart of the action in Times Square.

Celebrating New Years Eve in Times Square is a bucket-list item for people all around the globe and it's easy to see why. With celebrity performers, fireworks and and the bright lights of Times Square this is the place to be for one of the world's most epic parties.

Need to know

The Times Square New Year's Eve Ball will be raised to the top of the pole at One Times Square (Broadway at 43rd Street) at approximately 6pm EST. At exactly 11:59pm EST, the Ball makes its 60-second descent down the flagpole to signal the start of the New Year. Revelers are advised to gather in the afternoon on New Year's Eve. Entrance to the viewing areas is only open on a first-come, first served basis.

Did you know?

The first ever 'ball drop' took place on December 31, 1907, which welcomed in the year 1908.
