What is the NYC Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival?

If you are lucky enough to be in New York City over Easter weekend, you won't want to miss this fantastic parade and festival. In a centuries old tradition, hundreds of New Yorkers don their most lavish costumes and colorful Easter hats as they march down Fifth Avenue on Easter Sunday.

It is one of the Big Apple's most fashionable and eccentric events and perfectly showcases the city's fun-loving, creative side. The parade is an informal affair and anyone can join in. It marches north on Fifth Avenue, from 49th Street to 57th Street.

Need to know

The parade usually starts around 10am and continues until 4pm and is free to attend. For the best place to watch, head to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, on Fifth Avenue between 50th and 51st St, where many of the participants pose for photos.
