What is the Rainforest Music Festival?

The Rainforest Music Festival is an annual event near Kuching - the capital of the Malaysian state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo. The event is carefully curated and is a true international event, drawing musicians and performers from around the world.

Alongside the main musical acts, attendees can participate in wellness activities, explore food stalls from around the world and browse locally made handicrafts.

The festival provides a unique opportunity to learn about the local culture. Most mainstage events take place at the Sarawak Cultural Village which feature traditional Iban and Bidayuh longhouses – two native tribes local to northwest Sarawak.

The Rainforest Music Festival is a world-class event with a relaxed local vibe.

Need to Know

The Sarawak Cultural Village is about 40 minutes outside of Kuching, the festival does operate shuttle services, so plan accordingly when booking your accommodation. Also, it isn’t called the ‘Rainforest’ Music Festival for nothing, it will be hot, humid and make sure you pack some wet weather gear!

Did You Know?

Wildlife and outdoor lovers should be sure to extend their trip. Just outside of Kuching is the Semmengoh Nature Reserve which offers a unique opportunity to view rehabilitated orangutans in their natural habitat. Those looking for a true rainforest experience should visit Bako National Park – accessible only by speedboat through crocodile infested waters, the park has amazing hiking opportunities and is home to the rare Proboscis monkey.
