Thaipusam or Thaipoosam is a festival celebrated by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai.
Over a million Hindus gather every year at various temples nationwide to celebrate Thaipusam reaffirming their Hindu Faith.
The largest celebrations are in India, Singapore and Malaysia.
The beautifully colourful processions culminate in some places with participants walking over hot coals.
And in the more extreme element to the celebrations participants will pierce themselves multiple times to demonstrate the extent of their faith.
The celebrations we list here take place on a grand scale at the Batu Caves (Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple) just outside of Kuala Lumpur.
