What is the Tokyo Marathon?
The Tokyo Marathon is one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors and one of the biggest marathons in Japan. The course runs through the heart of Japan's capital city and sees both recreational runners and the world's best elite runners pound the streets to complete the iconic course.
Every year up to 38,000 participants travel from around the world to take on Tokyo's annual 26.2-mile (42.2-km) footrace . The theme of the Tokyo Marathon is 'The Day We Unite', which can be seen and felt in the city on race day as it brings together runners, volunteers and spectators from all over Japan and beyond.

Need to know
To participate in the Tokyo Marathon you must be at least 19 years old on race day and be able to complete the course within 6.5 hours.

The Tokyo Marathon sees over 10,000 volunteers ranging from 15 to 91 years old, travel from as far away as Hokkaido in the north and Kyushu in the south, to ensure the marathon runs without a hitch.
