The streets of New Orleans come alive on the 13th of February, as the city celebrates with the most colorful and joyous festival of the year. The Mardi Gras Festival is a celebration of life, love, and happiness, and it's an event that you simply cannot miss. For over 300 years, the city of New Orleans has been hosting this breathtaking Festival, which attracts millions of visitors from all over the world.

Visitors can expect to be swept up in the colourful carnival, where the streets are packed with partygoers, and the music never stops. With so many activities to choose from, here our some of our favourite suggestions to add to your itinerary.

One of the most iconic events during Mardi Gras are the Parades. Krewes, which are social clubs that organize the parades, decorate elaborate floats with bright colors and sparkling lights. The parades wind their way through the city, tossing beads and other trinkets to the cheering crowds.

The festivities begin in the morning, with the Zulu Parade starting at 8 a.m. from Jackson Avenue. The parade is a spectacle of color and energy, with floats, dancers, musicians, stilt walkers and more! The Zulu Parade is followed by the Rex Parade, which starts at 10.30 a.m. from Napoleon Avenue. The Rex Parade is a more formal affair, with elegant floats and costumes, and is a must-see for anyone visiting the festival.

After the parades, the action moves to the French Quarter, where the party continues well into the night. The French Quarter is the heart of the Mardi Gras Festival, with bars, restaurants, and clubs all hosting their own parties and events. Join in the fun and experience the magic of New Orleans at its best.

If you're looking for a more family-friendly atmosphere, head to the Canal Street area, where you'll find the Family Gras Festival. This event is perfect for families with children, and features live music, food, and entertainment.
