What is the Concurs De Castells?

The biennial human tower-building championship returns to Tarragona in Spain for another exciting year. Not for the faint-hearted, this unique event sees men, women, and children of all ages link arms and climb atop each other's shoulders to form incredible living human structures that are up to 13m high. 

Almost 6,000 spectators come to enjoy this spectacular human tower building event, which is over 200 years old and garners wide coverage from both Catalan and international media outlets.

This is a truly unique event to witness and you can be prepared to be mesmerized by this incredible feat of human endeavor.

Need to know

On the day of Concurs, you can also enjoy live music and dance performances from local talent and, on some occasions, fireworks are set off to celebrate the completion of the towers.

Did you know?

The "castells" (human castles) have been awarded the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity designation.
