What is the East African Safari Classic Rally?
The legendary East African Safari Classic Rally is a nine-day rally covering up to 5,000km across Kenya and Tanzania.
First run in 2003, it revives the essence of the original Safari Rally, which established East Africa as a major motorsports destination and built an unshakeable reputation as the world's toughest rally, drawing competitors like Travis Pastrana in 2011 and Ken Block in 2022.
Cars must be built before 1985 and Porsche 911s and Ford Escorts feature heavily. Drivers cover more than 700 kilometers on some days. There is no prize, so the drivers who compete want to win the race for the prestige!
The event is loved by the Kenyan people and attracts thousands of spectators each year, from the local area and abroad.
